Supplements to help with learning

Memory supplements

There are hundreds of supplements on the market today which claim to improve your cognitive function.

These supplements range from single ingredient herbal extracts sold in health food stores to premium, professional-quality nootropic stacks composed of powerful concentrates, amino acids and phospholipids.

As more and more people start spending money on enhancing their mental performance, the PR machine is starting to churn out an ever-growing body of content on nootropics. That’s why you will find hundreds of blogs all writing about how their favorite blend of herbs is what really boosts memory function.

Of course, the vast majority of this information is hyperbole. In other words, bloggers will hype up certain herbs and combinations of amino acids to help drive sales.

But it isn’t all just a sales-pitch.

Some nootropics have been clinically proven to enhance learning capacity in humans.

Let’s look at some of my favorites!

Bacopa monnieri for learning

Bacopa monnieri has been proven to dramatically improve memory function.

The effects seem to be greatest in older people, and people struggling with mild cognitive impairment.

In this placebo-controlled trial for example, researchers found that supplementation of 300mg of Bacopa monnieri extract each day for 12 weeks resulted in a signficiant improvement in memory-based tests.

Other studies have shown the same thing – in just 6-12 weeks, Bacopa monnieri can dramatically improve recall, retention, and memory accuracy. Many of the best nootropics use Bacopa monnieri extract, with the top-tier supplements investing in pure, concentrated Bacopa rather than whole leaf powder.

Lion’s Mane Mushroom

Lion’s Mane Mushroom is one of the best supplements for optimizing long-term learning and memory function.

In simple terms, Lion’s Mane Mushroom promotes the release of a neurotrophic factor called Nerve Growth Factor (NGF). This stimulates the proliferations and growth of new neurons, synapses, and dendrites. This has profound, long-term effects on cognitive function.

Supplementing with Lion’s Mane Mushroom has been proven in numerous clinical trials to improve different aspects of memory function, as well as preventing the worst symptoms of cognitive decline.
